When I was 22, a couple of months from 23, I found out that
I was hard of hearing. I was diagnosed with Sensorineural Hearing Loss which is
one of the most common forms of hearing loss. None of the doctors could tell me
for sure what caused my hearing problems but there are a lot of possible causes
in my case such as blaring headphones in my ears for years, genetic, maybe an
illness when I was a child; but I don’t know for sure. I'd like to know so that
when I have to explain this to people I can tell them ‘why’. I’d like to know
so I know the ‘why’. It took me awhile to adjust and deal with my hearing loss;
the constant theme of my fears is will I be deaf by the time I'm in my forties
and what will that mean. I am dealing and living with it right now wearing
hearing aids and learning ASL.
